As schools across Ghana and Africa welcome students back, excitement fills the air with the promise of new beginnings. However, at Bountiful STEM Educational Foundation (BSEF), we recognize the significant challenges many students and teachers face in accessing essential learning resources and teaching materials.
Access to digital tools remains a critical issue, particularly for schools serving historically underrepresented or underserved communities. According to The New York Times, the global academic performance of 9-year-olds in math and reading has regressed to levels from two decades ago. This alarming trend underscores the urgent need for supplemental educational experiences to keep young learners on track.
Our free co-curricular programs—including after-school STEM educational robotics, coding, and reading remedial classes—aim to bridge this gap. By offering K-12 students a supportive environment to cultivate intellectual curiosity and explore computer science in a fun and engaging way, we’re helping to address the inequities exacerbated by the pandemic.
We’re thrilled to announce that BSEF will be donating over 20 desktop computers and accessories to basic schools in the Swedru School District of the Central Region. Additionally, schools in three underserved districts—the Eastern, Volta, and Northern Regions—will benefit from our Back to School computer equipment donations.
This initiative would not be possible without the generous contributions of our donors and partners. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Jim Laudie, Selina Appiah, Eric Decker, Curt Allen, Andy Hiatt, Utah Tech University, and our dedicated volunteers. Together, we’re shaping a brighter future for education in Ghana and beyond.
